How can we help?
barrio.social is invite-only and community-first. If something isn't working
or you have a question, we're a small team and we actually read your emails.
Getting started
- You need an invite code to join barrio.social. If you don't have one, ask someone already in your barrio.
- Sign in with a magic link — enter your email and tap the link we send you. No password needed.
- Set your handle and 5 words that describe who you are, then upload a photo. That's your identity in the barrio.
Connecting with people
- Search for someone by their handle in the Search tab.
- Tap their profile and hit Connect to send a connection request.
- When they accept, you'll both be asked to write a short story about how you know each other. Only the two of you can see it.
- Pending connection requests appear as a notification badge on the Search tab and a banner on the Barrio screen.
Events
- Tap the Events tab to see what's happening in your barrio.
- Tap + New event to create one. Choose who can see it: Private (specific invites), Amigos (your connections), Social (friends of friends), or Barrio (everyone).
- RSVP with I'm in or Maybe. Change your mind with Can't make it.
- Private events are only visible to the people you specifically invite.
- As the creator, you can delete your event from the event detail screen.
Push notifications
- barrio.social sends push notifications for connection requests, acceptances, and event invites.
- To enable: grant notification permission when prompted, or go to your iPhone Settings → barrio.social → Notifications.
- To disable: iPhone Settings → barrio.social → Notifications → Allow Notifications → off.
Invite codes
- Once you're in, you can generate invite codes to bring in people you trust.
- Each code can only be used once.
- You're responsible for who you invite — keep the barrio good.
Account and privacy
- Edit your handle, words, and photo any time from the Profile tab.
- To delete your account: Profile → Delete account. This is permanent and cannot be undone.
- We never sell your data. Read our full Privacy Policy.
Known issues
- If the app gets stuck loading, close and reopen it. If it keeps happening, email us.
- Push notifications require a real device — they don't work in some testing environments.
